Will allow accessing online storage and sharing files directly from these devices
Symantec has released the latest version of All-in-One Security and online storage backup suite Norton 360 v4.0. Apart from that, Symantec has gone a step ahead this time and announced new products for smartphones. The company has released its first beta application for the Android platform and soon, will launch an app for iPhone as well as iPad. To be clear, this has nothing to do with security or prevention of malicious attacks on the smartphone platforms.
With the Android or iPhone platform app, smartphone users can access their data stored online with Norton 360 and Norton Online Backup. Also, users can share the same data directly from their devices. So, in a way, Norton does what Apple’s MobileMe, SugarSync and Dropbox mainly do – allow accessing data stored in clouds from the smartphones.
At this moment, the first beta of Norton’s Android app is available as Norton Tiki and the iPhone application is expected to be released in the near future. Note that the Norton application for Android and iPhone platform would be available for free.
The new version of Norton 360 suite does bring slew of new features like PC optimization tools and ‘Smart Start-up Manager’. Just like the earlier mentioned apps, Norton 360 back-up can be accessed using the web browser.
Let’s hope Norton keeps its apps different than the existing options or else, it would be like joining the crowd.
